Goodbye for now Portsmouth Police Department
Below is my parting email I sent to the Department on April 7th, 2008..
From: Jim Conrad
To: Police Department
Subject: Goodbye for Now
Today I received my official termination notice by USPS certified
mail signed by the City Manager since the Chief no longer has the
authority to discipline anyone. I will of course be grieving it but
their are no certainties in life. To all those I have worked with
over the past several years that have supported me in my quest and
taught me so much I want to thank you. To those that have had issues
with me sorry for being a pain-in-the-a…
I believe that the worker-bee’s of the department are hard working,
dedicated to their jobs, believe in what they do and always try to do
the right thing. I can not say the same about some of the people that
are not in the trenches.
Something that I have learned over the years is that honesty and
credibility once destroyed can never be rebuilt. Please remember that
in your day to day lives. If you ask yourself the following questions
before you do something you can rarely go wrong;
Is it legal to do?
Is it the right thing to do?
Is it the moral thing to do?
Is it the honest thing to do?
Is it the ethical thing to do?
If the answer to any of those questions is no then it’s time to
reevaluate your decision. The END NEVER JUSTIFIES THE MEANS in a free
society. A little injustice is still an injustice.
Police Officers and Police Departments must set the example to the
public and must not violate the very laws that they are sworn to
protect. Professional Courtesy is one thing but disregard of the law
is another. Are any of us perfect, no, I surely am not. Am I right
all the time, no just most of the time ![]()
